Shipping and Handling Instructions for EM Cable Reels

The electro-mechanical cables are supplied on steel reinforced wooden reels. Wooden lagging boards placed across the outside of the reel protect the exposed surface of the cable. Each end of the cable is secured on the outside of one flange for inspection purposes.

The reel must be handled property while loading, unloading, and during transportation. If a reel is mishandled and damaged, it may be impossible to remove the cable without damage. In such cases, the full monetary value of the cable can be lost.

DO NOT HANDLE in any of the following ways:

• Do not lay reel on side (on flanges)

• Do not drop the reel

• Do not lift reel by anything placed across the center of reel

• Do not transport without properly securing reel

• Do not place securing chains across center of reel

• Do not expose cable to any type of electrical current or charge

• Do not put any nails or screws into the wooden reel

• Do not damage wooden lagging or steel bands across center of reel

PROPER HANDLING TECHNIQUES include the following:

• Do keep reel upright at all times

• Do block and brace to protect from rolling and falling from an elevated surface

• Do lift using forklift with forks placed at bottom of circular flanges, from flange to flange

• Do lift using sling or chain placed through center axis hole

• Do transport after securing with chains through center axis hole, and block and brace at flanges

• Do protect from exposure to electrical current, including welding

• Do protect the condition of the steel bands across center of reel

• Do protect the condition of the wooden lagging boards and steel bands across the center of the reel

• Do protect from exposure to moisture

• Do report any possible damage as soon as it occurs
