Wire Rope Maintenance: Reduce Costs, Increase Safety

Summary

The wire rope, together with other parts, is the most important component of your rigging assembly. It should not be economized therefore in maintenance at the cost of safety and service life. Selecting a preservative lubricant with the appropriate additives will significantly lengthen the useful life of your wire rope by protecting the rope against corrosive conditions, inner-strand corrosion, and bending fatigue caused by metal-to-metal contact. Your maintenance program should include wire rope lubrication and specify the preservative lubricant by trade name to insure proper protection, lubrication, and compatibility. Always contact the preservative lubricant manufacturer regarding any product questions you may have.
