The Temperature Rating of Well Logging Cables

Camesa manufactures logging cables in a number of different temperature ranges, and the principal difference between these cables is the type of plastic used in the insulation. Camesa rates plastics according to the following:

Plastic Type

Maximum Temperature

Polypropylene at 300 F (149 C)
(ethylene copolymer or EPC)
300 F or 149 C
Camtane
(polymethylpentene or TPX)
420 F or 204 C
Teflon® 500 F or 260 C (FEP 100)
Tefzel® 500 For 260 C (Tefzel 280)
PFA® 550 For 288 C (Teflon PFA 340)
TFE® 600 For 316 C (Teflon TFE)

Teflon® is a registered trademark of the Du Pont Company

To the best of Camesa's knowledge, all of the manufacturers of logging cables purchase their high temperature plastics from the same sources.
