MULTIPHASE* MP35N is a specialty quaternary alloy. It has an unusual combination of strength properties and resistance to severe  nical environments. Consequently, it is   ing application in widely differing areas. The nominal composition of the alloy is: Nickel 35%, Cobalt 35%, Chromium 20%, Molybdenum 10%,

The alloy is vacuum induction melted and consumable vacuum arc remelted. Residual elements such as carbon, silicon, sulfur and phosphorus are maintained at as low a level as possible. Billets are hot rolled to rod and supplied to Maryland Specialty Wire, Inc., (the sole U.S. wire licensee) for drawing to wire.

Wire is supplied by  Maryland Specialty Wire, Inc., in sizes from 0.200 inch diameter to " 0.002 inch diameter, in strengths from 150,000 psi to over 300,000 psi. It is available in a variety of tempers, finish and packaging for various applications.

Applications

The MP35N alloy was originally developed as a high-strength, ductile alloy which could be drawn at strengths up to and over 300,000 psi. Its iirst application was as a fastener alloy. Its unusual combination of strength and resistance to embrittling, corrosive environments opens up a number of applications for wire of this unique material. Among these are:

Medical applications where the corrosion resistance provides biocompatibility with stress-corrosion cracking resistance and fatigue , strength. One example is endocardial leads fabricated from 0.010-inch diameter MP35N for use in cardiac pacemakers.

Seawater applications where the resistance to crevice and general corrosion is outstanding.

Oil and gas well applications where the resistance to general corrosion and sulfide stress cracking are gaining acceptance. MP35N has been approved by the NACE Standard MR-01-75, Materials for Valves for Resistance to Sulfide Stress Cracking in Production and Pipeline Service, March, 1975. MP35N is being used as the armor material for logging cables in sour wells where the H2S concentration is high.

Spring applications where the combination of high strength, high modulus values, and corrosion resistance make MP35N the choice for severe applications.

Other applications ultrahigh strength combined with good ductility and excellent corrosion resistance make MP35N the choice for formed parts, pins and safety devices.
